Guadalajara Museums: Exterior photo of the Museo Regional de GuadalajaraCultural attractions are an important part of the tourism scene in Guadalajara and in particular, the city's museums are always appealing. The Regional Museum of Guadalajara (Museo Regional de Guadalajara) is a great way to learn more about the city. On the ground floor you will find an extensive natural history area, where the enormous skeleton of a woolly mammoth is amongst the highlights and provides a popular spot for photographs.

Other quality museums include the City Museum itself (Museo de la Ciudad), where a series of exhibition rooms are centred around a courtyard and house many different displays, including a collection of military items. Those who would like to find out more about how tequila is created in its home state should take a tour of the Guadalajara's Tequila Factory (Tequila Sauza), whilst sampling the produce itself. Located on the eastern side of the Rotonda de los Jaliscienses Ilustres, the Museo Regional de Guadalajara is an extremely important city museum and boasts a somewhat eclectic array of exhibits and collections, celebrating the history of this region. For many, the archaeological section is of particular interest and filled with many historic artefacts found in the Guadalajara area, including pottery and jewellery. A history gallery is located on the floor above and features a series of colonial-style paintings and in-depth information about traditional Mexican cowboys, known locally as 'charros'.

Celebrating local life and the historic pottery produced in the village of Tonalá, the Museo Regional de Tonalá is located within central Guadalajara and housed within a traditional building. Within the museum you will find a range of changing art exhibitions, where the many local arts and crafts are displayed to their full advantage. Other attractions include an outdoor area where theatrical performances regularly take place. Some items of pottery are for sale, should you wish to purchase a souvenir of your visit.

Guadalajara's Museo de la Ciudad is the perfect place for history buffs and boasts a large collection of historic artefacts and photographs documenting various aspects of the city's past. The museum itself was founded in 1992 and is housed within an attractive building, formerly used as a convent. All of the labels are in Spanish, although most of the exhibits speak for themselves.

Tequila is a famous Mexican spirit made from the leaves of the blue agave, originating in the nearby town of Tequila. However, within Guadalajara itself, the Tequila Sauza offers visitors the chance to learn more about this national drink and enjoy a guided tour of the facilities.
